US: DOJ promotes lawyer to No. 3 position

The US Department of Justice has promoted one of its lawyers to the agency’s number three position, officials announced Friday.

    Stuart F. Delery, who is currently the acting associate attorney general, will succeed Tony West, who announced last week that he will leave the DOJ by the 15th of this month.

    Delery will oversee antitrust cases, among others, including civil rights and environmental matters.

    His position as acting associate attorney general establishes him as the top candidate for the permanent position, reports say. The position requires a presidential nomination.
