UK: Government reports optimistic findings for energy sector

    The DECC says that more than two million customers have switched energy providers to an independent company since 2010. The switching follows energy watchdog Ofgem’s commitments made to address concerns raised by independent energy companies that outlined barriers to energy and growth.

    Since those concerns were raised, officials appointed a civil servant to manage relations with the independent energy market.

    The most recent reports suggests officials are effectively promoting competition.

    The energy industry was referred by Ofgem to the Competition and Markets Authority for an in-depth probe as consumer disapproval rises regarding heightened energy costs and a lack of competition.
