As Beats Electronics received notice that the European Commission has approved for the company to be acquired by Apple, reports say the headphone manufacturer is now facing legal action by top rival Bose.
Apple was cleared to proceed with its largest acquisition to date, a $3 billion purchase of Beats. In the midst of a takeover, Beats is particularly vulnerable to litigation, experts say.
Bose has filed a lawsuit against Beats claiming its rival infringed on five Active Noise Reduction patents, leading Bose to lose significant market share to its competitor.
The suit was filed in Delaware.
According to experts, companies in the midst of an acquisition are more likely to settle than proceed with a lawsuit, making this an ideal moment for Bose to put pressure on Beats.
