India: Gas watchdog wades through market study

India’s gas regulator, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, is continuing its market inquiry into the oil industry but has reportedly reached a decision on how much natural gas sellers can charge from manufacturers.

    The announcement follows the Oil Ministry’s order last November that the margin charged to sellers like Reliance Industries and GAIL must be fixed. While the PNGRB has reached a decision on what that margin should be, the board has not yet competed its inquiry into the gas industry.

    Further, say reports, the board said that any complaints about the use of monopoly power of gas suppliers should be filed to the Competition Commission of India or addressed directly to the PNGRB.

    The board said it expects to finalize its study by the end of the year.
