Botswana: Bid-rigging takes top priority for new watchdog

Botswana’s Competition Authority has reportedly handled 11 bid-rigging cases since the watchdog was first launched.

    The majority of those cases, reports say, involve individuals using their position on multiple boards of directors to submit multiple bids for the same contracts. Of the 11 cases, four have been closed and six remain under investigation.

    News of the cases follows reported concern over the effectiveness of evaluation committees used by the Authority to aid in investigations.
