Australia: Egg group accused of hatching market-manipulating scheme

    The Corporation is charged with killing chickens and burying eggs to manipulate supplies of eggs and fix product prices, reports say. Plaintiffs suing the group include rival egg companies.

    According to a complaint filed with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the plaintiffs claim a publication was sent to the Egg Corporation’s members encouraging them to restrict egg supplies. The ACCC then filed a statement of claim that included allegations the group held an “egg oversupply crisis meeting” to discuss the matter in 2012.
