The UK’s Competition Commission has cleared communications technology firm Ericsson to acquire UK media firm Red Bee, say reports.
The buyout was referred by the Office of Fair Trading over concerns of reduced competition in the playout services market. Ericsson already provides playout services to NBC Universal and ITV; Red Bee provides them to the BBC, Channel 4, UKTV and BT Sport, say reports.
But according to the Competition Commission, uncertainty in the market due to the incoming conclusion of Ericsson’s contract with ITV, as well as anticipated technological changes and other factors, the merger is not likely to adversely affect competition.<>.Financial details of the deal were not reported.
