The European Commission has been asked by Ireland-based wireless operator Ericom to closely scrutinize the planned acquisition of O2 by its rival Three on concerns the transaction will harm the telco market.
Reports say Ericom has requested that the Commission re-allocate some spectrum currently held by Three and O2 to its rivals. Ericom would like that spectrum to be given to competitors Vodafone and Ericom subsidiary Meteor as part of terms of the deal.
Further, Ericom reportedly expressed concerns of how the O2 acquisition would affect Ericom’s current network sharing deal with the company. Three’s parent company Hutchinson Whampoa may scrap the partnership following the transaction.
