Lithuania is taking Russian gas monopoly Gazprom to court in efforts to reduce energy prices for consumers, say reports.
Gas users claim to pay up to one-fourth more than the rest of EU consumers; Lithuania led the European Commission to open an antitrust probe into the matter.
Now, Lithuania is taking Gazprom to court in Sweden, suing the company for $2 billion in what the state claims is equal to overcharges. The Lithuanian Energy Ministry is now encouraging domestic gas utility Lietuvos Dujos to join the lawsuit.
Gazprom remains the sole natural gas provider for Lithuania, reports say.
