Brazil: Private education deal gets schooled by CADE

Brazilian antitrust regulators announced Wednesday it is challenging the $2.1 billion merger of private education conglomerates Kroton Educational and Anhanguera Educacional Participações over concerns the deal hampers competition in some regions.

    The companies confirmed watchdog CADE’s announcement and said they are fully cooperating with authorities to solve the issue.

    The companies first announced the transaction last April. Reports say Brazil’s private education sector is heating up with mergers and has recently been the target of closer watch by CADE.
