New Zealand: Telecom spin-off goes to court over copper wire pricing

Telecommunications firm Chorus, which was spun out of Telecom Corp in 2011, is reportedly going to court challenging New Zealand’s Commerce Commission’s copper wire pricing regulations.

    Chorus filed a complaint in the High Court seeking a judicial ruling on whether the competition regulator properly interpreted the law when it based copper wire prices based on only two nations; the Commission’s regulation lead to a 23 percent price cut for Chorus.

    In addition to the court filing, reports say the company has also applied to the regulator for a final review of its pricing decision for the company’s unbundled bitstream access.
