US: AG Holder draws lines for airline merger

As reported earlier, new details emerged early this week regarding the US Department of Justice’s lawsuit against the proposed merger between American Airlines and US Airways; in the latest development, reports say Attorney General Eric Holder offered a press conference to elaborate on what, exactly, regulators would require from the airlines for their merger to clear.

    According to AG Holder, a settlement would require “divestitures of facilities at key constrained airports throughout the United States,” though he did not specify which airports he had in mind.

    Despite recent reports of possible settlement talks between the parties, Holder assured that the DOJ is “fully prepared to take this case to trial” should no resolution be met.

    The parties are set to begin trial November 25.
