Philippines: Call for competition law refreshed

A Philippine lawmaker has refreshed the call for established competition law with a version of the Philippine Fair Competition Act, say reports.

    House Speaker Sonny Belmonte submitted the legislation, House Bill 1133, to the House Committee on Trade and Industry. The bill reportedly establishes a presidential competition authority with powers to investigate allegations of competition abuses and prosecute individuals and companies.

    According to reports, Belmonte’s submission comes as another version of the Fair Competition Act is pending within the House of Representatives.
