Germany: Kabel Deutschland forfeits to watchdog in buyout bid

Kabel Deutschland has reportedly retracted its appeal against German competition regulators, who challenged the cable company in its bid to acquire smaller rival Tele Columbus Group.

    The development was announced following the European Commission’s clearance to Vodafone Group’s plans to buyout Kabel Deutschland.

    According to reports, a spokesperson for the German cable company said Vodafone’s acquisition changes the competitive landscape, and that pursuing a drawn-out legal battle for Tele Columbus is illogical for the company at this time.

    German regulators first opposed to Kabel’s bid for Tele Columbus last February.
