US: Nielsen in talks with FTC for $1.26B audience measurement company deal

Nielsen Holdings is reportedly in discussions with the US Federal Trade Commission in pursuit of its $1.26 billion buyout of Arbitron and the creation of a media audience statistics measurement company, sources say.

    Two unnamed sources told media that Nielsen is negotiating with regulators to decide concessions and allow the deal to earn approval. According to the sources, the clearance of the deal depends on Nielsen’s agreement to license audience measurement technology to competitor ComScore Inc., as well as researches, networks and others.

    Nielsen announced August 30 that it agreed to extend the review period of the deal into September. An exact timeline was not established, however.
