Broadcast television conglomerate MultiChoice was accused of anticompetitive behavior in Kenya as rivals warned of a formal complaint to come. Reports say Wanachi Group confirmed it will be filing a formal complaint with the Communication Commission of Kenya as well as the Competition Authority of Kenya against MultiChoice over allegations the broadcaster is attempting to “monopolize the market” by acquiring exclusive rights to soccer programming. While MultiChoice did not deny the allegations, the company’s executive chairman Nolo Letele told media that pay-TV thrives on such exclusivity. The CK’s director-general Francis Wangusi also reportedly said there were not legal mandates for pay-TV operators to share exclusive content.
