Portugal: Cable TV buyout cleared by watchdog

Portugal’s Competition Authorty announced the clearance of the proposed buyout of telecommunications operator Oni by competitor Altice, which owns cable television operator Cabovisão. Reports said the decision was made June 3. In a statement, Cabovisão said the deal will allow the company to become the nation’s “second telecommunications operator…in the short of medium term” The firm also said it plans to invest about $200 million in its efforts over the next three years. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
