UK-based Vodafone took one step closer to acquiring Germany’s largest cable company Kabel Deutschland in a deal made for $10 billion as the German company’s board backed the buyout Friday. If all hurdles are cleared, the deal would be the third-largest telecommunications buyout in Europe this year. Vodafone has stated that the purchase would be part of a larger move to expand into the wireless market. Further, the company said it is not planning any major divestures of Kabel Deutschland, but would reorganize the company by combining its northern and southern England units to more easily bundle phone, Internet and television packages.
