EU/China: Through controversy, EC clears solar panel price floor

The European Commission announce its approval of a price floor for imported solar panel products from Chinese manufacturers to end allegations that China had been dumping its products in the EU at below-market prices. Following the news of the proposed agreement, some domestic solar panel companies denounced the offer by trade chief Karel De Gucht, claiming the price floor was still too low for manufacturers to compete. The Commission supported the offer Friday, however, which will remain in effect until the end of 2015. The agreement was first made public on July 27 as a measure to avoid dumping taxes that some EU governments oppose.
