Following a second request for more information regarding the acquisition of consumer research firm Arbitron by Nielsen Holdings, the global information company announced the Federal Trade Commission has legally committed itself to a timetable to rule on the buyout. In a statement Nielsen CEO David Calhoun called the process “workmanlike” and “longer than anybody would like,” but “healthy.” While the company did not specify an exact date for the FTC to announce its decision, the firm said it expects an answer by the end of August. The buyout would merge Nielsen’s television ratings and consumer habits business with Arbitron’s operations of radio and out-of-home media consumption analysis.
