EU: Disgruntled group claims botched settlement over EU, China in solar panel case

Following news that the European Commission had reached an agreement with China-based manufacturers of solar panels, ending a case initiated over complaints the foreign companies were dumping their products in the EU at below-market prices, reports say some domestic solar panel markers are unhappy with the agreement. In the latest development, the Alliance for Affordable Solar Energy has reportedly accused the Commission of using biased information to reach that settlement and has sent a letter to the regulator to question the watchdog on the matter. The Commission reportedly used information from Germany-based market consultant Europressedienst to come to its conclusions about the settlement, which set a price floor of about 75 cents per Watt set. The Alliance claims that Europressedienst “clearly has a relationship” with claimants of the case, including SolarWorld and EU ProSun, creating a “conflict of interest.” A spokesperson for the Commission has denied the claims, however, as well as rumors that an investigation of Europressedienst was being organized.
