US: Senators amp-up fight against anticompetitive steel sales

In an appeal to the US International Trade Commission, Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown have called for stricter protection against anticompetitive trade following the Department of Commerce’s decision last week to probe allegations that nine countries are selling steel pipes in the US at below-market prices. The Senators are now calling on the ITC to “punish” the overseas companies and described the foreign steel pipe manufacturers as crippling domestic producers. Further, the Senators claim that the foreign competitors post a threat to US jobs, and that the anticompetitive behavior puts “our businesses and thousands of American workers” at risk.
