State-backed fund Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, or CDP, is looking to acquire the fixed-line operations of Telecom Italia, a buyout that would add to CDP’s telco portfolio but one that raised concerns with antitrust watchdogs. The nation’s competition regulator announced plans to look into the deal to evaluate its effect on competition, said Antitrust President Giovanni Pitruzzella. CDP currently owns a stake in Metroweb, a fiber-optic network based in Milan, through its investment fund. The additional buyout may affect competition in the sector, said Pitruzzella in Senate testimony on Tuesday.
