Germany: Telefonica Deutschland gives E-Plus buyout another go, say sources

Sources told reporters German telecommunications conglomerate Telefonica Deutschland Holding is in talks again to merge with KPN’s E-Plus, say reports. For the second time, Telefonica Deutschland will look to combine O2 and E-Plus; talks for this deal fell through last year in a transaction worth an estimated $11.2 billion. This time around, however, reports say the deal would only be valued at just under $6 billion, according to some analysts. If negotiations succeed, reports say the deal, which would combine the top three and four carriers in the nation, would test the limits of antitrust regulation. The two companies’ biggest competitors are Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone Group.
