South Africa: Trial continues this week for brewery case

A hearing regarding complaints of anticompetitive behavior by South African Breweries was put on hold last weekend to continue Monday, announced the Competition Tribunal. The nation’s Competition Commission initiated proceedings against SAB claiming the beer giant abused its dominant market position by favoring its distributors and squeezing out independent distributors, putting those independent companies at a disadvantage. Reports say the case is scheduled to run until mid-August; closing arguments are scheduled for early September. SAB denies the allegations.
