China: Smartphone technology makers ink $1.5B deal

China’s Tsinghua Holdings Co., a manufacturer of smartphone chips, announced plans to acquire competitor Spreadtrum Communications Inc., also based in China. The deal was valued at about $1.5 billion, a higher value than original bids confirmed last month by Spreadtrum in June. The deal is subject to regulatory and shareholder approval, say reports.
