UK: OFT suspects IT firms of rigging competition for government contracts

The Office of Fair Trading announced a probe of IT firms over suspicions the companies are colluding to win government contracts through anticompetitive practices. The investigation, initiated Wednesday, will focus on whether some of the largest firms, such as HP and Capita, are abusing their dominance to prevent smaller competitors from winning over contracts. A deadline of August 8 has been set to submit information concerning the matter to the regulator, said reports. The OFT emphasized the importance of competitive IT costs as a primary motivation for the investigation.
