Portugal: Sport TV hit with $4.8M dominance abuse fine

Portugal-based television broadcasting company Sport TV has been issued a fine of about $4.8 million by the nation’s Competition Authority. According to reports, the fine was issued following a complaint launched with the watchdog that the broadcaster was abusing its dominant position. Television operator Cabovisao issued the complaint in 2009 due to Sport TV’s mandatory fee charged to operators; the Authority decided that the fee was anticompetitive as it disadvantaged certain operators.
