US: No answer on US, AMR deal until August, say sources

Sources have told reporters that a decision on whether to clear the proposed US Airways/AMR Corp merger will not be made until mid-August. According to reports, the merger, which would create the world’s largest airline, will not receive judgment until August 15, until after a court hears American Airline’s bankruptcy reorganization request. The US Department of Justice is currently reviewing the deal. Spokesmen for the two parties declined to comment.
