US: Grocers group stands up against potato growers

Grocers group Associated Wholesale Grocers has filed a lawsuit against various potato growers accusing the farmers colluded to illegally fix prices by reducing crops to artificially inflate prices. According to reports, the grocers group says the farmers have been running the scheme for a decade and goes so far as to accuse the growers’ group United Potato Growers of America of using satellites and aircraft to spy on other farmers. The potato group, along with 24 other defendants, were named in court documents; the case was shifted to the US District Court in Idaho. The grocers group is asking for treble damages and, according to reports, penalties could reach the millions.
