EU: Ryanair blames woes on Commission’s political – not commercial – motivations
Ryanair, which was recently denied to proceed with its bid to acquire Aer Lingus, has blamed the European Commission’s recent rulings on political motivations rather than commercial in its annual report. According to the airline, its concessions offered to regulators for the deal were superior to those offered by British Airways for its purchase of British Midlands. British Airways was cleared to proceed. Its remedies package was “revolutionary,” according to Ryanair, and has accused regulators of making “yet another politically motivated decision,” deeming those decisions “inexplicable” considering Europe’s agenda of airline consolidation. Ryanair remains the focus of a potential second investigation by the UK’s Competition Commission into its stake in Aer Lingus despite the EU’s rejection of a buyout – the airline has slammed that second investigation as “time-wasting.”
