Switzerland: Nation shakes hands with EU to boost competition

The competition regulators of Switzerland and the European Union have made an agreement to strengthen ties between antitrust regulators that will allow the two to exchange information gathered during probes launched by the watchdogs. The Swiss Competition Commission and the European Commission announced the agreement in a move to, according to European Commissioner Joaquin Almunia, fight the cross-boarder effects of anticompetitive practices; the agreement will lead to “more effective” regulators, said Almunia. Specific terms of the agreement includes methods for cooperation between the two watchdogs for enforcement activities and outlines the implementation of competition rules, among other agreements.
