Armenia: Price hikes probed in trail of bankruptcy announcement

As national air carrier Armavia announced its bankruptcy, reports say the nation’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition has launched an investigation into hikes in airfares. Head of Commission Artak Shaboyan announced the authority’s plans, noting that “media sources” informed him of the ticket price increases by several airliners. The news comes as the Commission also probes the aviation sector with the World Bank. Reports say a number of airliners have increased ticket prices, including TransAero, Siberia and Aeroflot, noting that Aeroflot has increased its fare prices twice.
