US: The Twinkie finds a new home

Twinkie’s now-defunct maker, Hostess Brands Inc., has announced that the Department of Justice has officially begun reviewing Flowers Foods Inc’s bid to buy the bankrupt company. Flowers was reportedly the only bidder to qualify for Hostess’s offer of $360 million, whose assets include the Wonder, Butternut, Home Pride, Merita, and Nature’s Pride brands. The acquisition would also include 20 bread plants and 38 depots. An auction was initially scheduled for February 28, but the $360 million offer was deemed sufficient. A court date of March 19 is set to review the deal.
