The Office of Fair Trading has announced its appointment of Chris Walters as the OFT’s new Chief Economist. Walters succeeds Amelia Fletcher. According to the authority’s press release, Walters will begin his position in April as head of the Office of the Chief Economists as well as Head of Profession for all of the OFT’s economists. Fletcher will be leaving the position at the end of March to become a Professor of Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia. OFT Chief Executive Clive Maxwell praised Walters as one who will deliver “high quality consumer and competition work” in the future.
