UK: Debate to re-word health act, increase competition

GP leader Dr. Michael Dixon is urging the rewording of proposed legislations of the Health and Social Care act to increase competition within the new NHS setup. According to reports, Dr. Dixon, who is the interim president of NHS Clinical Commissioners, is urging a rewording of a section in the Health and Social Care Act he claims would stifle competition, as the wording forces NHS bodies to use private firms to treat their patients. In a statement, Dixon said, “unless the commissioner is king, the whole system is going to fall down.” The Act will come into effect April 1.
