The country’s newest mobile operator Iliad has assured the media that rumors of a merger for its Free Mobile unit with rival SFR are entirely untrue. In a conference call, Iliad deputy CEO Thomas Reynaud noted the company’s strong growth report for 2012 – the company saw a sales growth of nearly 50 percent – and assured the company had “no need for an external deal to bring growth.” SFR is the French unit of Vivendi. Despite the rumored speculation, analysts were skeptical of the deal even before Iliad’s denial. Instead of a merger, said Reynaud, the company is looking to secure fixed-line and mobile market share.
