Egypt: Antitrust authority sends uncooperative mobile operators to public prosecutors
Two of Egypt’s largest mobile operators have been referred to public prosecutors for investigation by Egypt’s Competition Authority, which claims the operators were uncooperative with the ECA. Mobinil and Etisalat are reported to have been uncooperative in an investigation by the authority. In a statement by ECA Chairman Mona El-Garf, the authority requires entities to cooperate in regards to providing documents and making statements within a timeframe dictated by the ECA. El-Garf did not say, specifically, how the two companies have been uncooperative. Mobinil, Etisalat and Vodafone Egypt are all under investigation by the antitrust authority in response to the three simultaneously imposing a tax to their customers.
