According to analysts, mega-mergers are making a comeback in today’s economy. In the wake of the recent announcement of a merger between American Airlines and US Airways – which will result in the world’s largest airline – analysts have said that merger activity has “roared back to life.” Other recent notable mergers include the buyout of H. J. Heinz company for $23 billion and a $24 billion buyout plan for Dell. James B. Lee Jr., vice chairman of JPMorgan Chase, said the recent happenings are as if “the stars came into alignment,” especially since the economic crisis. Reports say, however, that it is too early in the year to truly compare recent mergers and acquisitions activity as equal to the booms of 1989, 1999 and 2007.
