US: Nielsen voluntarily re-submits merger notification to give FTC more review time
Global information and measurement company Nielsen has reportedly voluntarily retracted then re-filed its notification the Federal Trade Commission of plans to buy marketing research firm Arbitron. The re-filing was reportedly intended to give the FTC an additional 30 days to review the transaction; a decision on the deal must now be made by March 8. The news comes as Arbitron announced a class action filed against both it and Nielson by Arbitron shareholdings over the deal. The suit alleges that the two parties breached fiduciary duties by “failing to maximize shareholder value” in the merger deal.
