Germany: Cable giant appeals antitrust authority’s fines against TV groups

Germany’s biggest cable operator has reportedly filed a complaint at an appeal court against the nation’s antitrust authority after it ruled to fine commercial TV groups nearly $75 million for anticompetitive practices. Late last year the authority found that RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 made anticompetitive agreements in their practice of jointly introducing basic encryption of free-to-air digital channels. Kabel Deutschland, the cable operator giant, has now filed an appeal of the authority’s decision, though a spokesperson declined to elaborate on the exact case made. The two commercial TV groups did not file a complaint against the decision, however.
