US: Challenging Ticketmaster dominance with technology

Sports and entertainment company AEG is reportedly strategizing to compete with Ticketmaster since the latter received approval to buy AEG’s main rival Live Nation Entertainment in 2010. According to reports, AEG, which is based in Los Angeles, is looking to compete by revolutionizing the way consumers buy tickets, including a new mobile app that will allow ticket-buyers to purchase concessions from their seats during events. According to AEG’s Chief Executive, the company is looking to make the ticket-buying experience into a “relationship” with consumers, noting that they want to keep that relationship with a consumer “from the moment someone says they want to go to an event, to the moment they walk out of the event.” AEG will reportedly win over exclusivity to sell tickets to major sporting events in three venues this summer; AEG will be the only place concert-goers can buy tickets for an upcoming Beyonce concert at one of those venues, the Staples Center in LA.
