Canada: Communications regulator denies feud within mobile sector

Canada’s Radio-television Telecommunications Commission has reportedly denied an appeal made by Ice Wireless and Iristel for the communications regulator to issue a cease-and-desist order on rival Northwestel. The two wireless companies allege that Northwestel got a “head start on competition” as it allegedly delayed the implementation of its modernization plan for its network; the two also argue that the plan and the company promote new services and pricing packaging for services that already exist, and are requesting the communications authority to block those plans “until the key proceedings required to complete the competitive regulator framework” for the company’s territory have been finalized. The authority, however, has denied the appeal, noting that the two companies do not have enough evidence to back up their claims.
