The Competition Commission is reportedly looking closely at Wal-mart and whether the US-based conglomerate followed competition regulation in its takeover of South Africa-based Massmart. According to reports, the authority is looking at whether Wal-mart and its takeover have created jobs an supported the development of local suppliers, as was part of an arrangement agreed upon at the ruling of the court and the Competition Tribunal. The takeover, which occurred more than two years prior, was contested by the South African government, but the deputy commissioner for the Competition Commission has stated that the takeover did not result in any job losses.
