UK: OFT defends decision against fuel probe, blames ministers for high gas prices

The Office of Fair Trading has blamed high gas prices on ministers and their tax raises, according to reports. The OFT, which has caused an uproar over its decision to not open a full probe into the petrol sector after rising accusations of price manipulation, has argued that there is “no evidence” for collusion in the industry and that without high taxes the UK would have some of the lowest gas prices in Europe. Further, the OFT says the market is “working well” despite high gas prices.
