Brazil: Antitrust authority faces difficulties in probing foreign price-fixers

According to sources, Brazil’s antitrust authority CADE is facing difficulties in its pursuit against LCD and cathode ray tube price-fixers. The unnamed sources say that the investigation into the price-fixers, which was sparked from the recent investigations in Europe and the US, is finding difficulties in dealing with companies, many of which have entered into leniency programs, in other nations, especially in Asia, said the source. Also according to two sources, the most difficult jurisdiction for CADE is Taiwan, as Brazil does not have an embassy there. Other companies under investigation by CADE are in South Korea and Japan.
