US: Settlement of $158.6M for price-fixing offered by Dairy Farmers of America, others

A settlement of $158.6 million has been reached by Dairy Farmers of America Inc. and other dairy companies over accusations that the companies have been fixing milk prices. DFA would pay $70 million. The lawsuit was first filed in 2007, and a trial was scheduled for Tuesday in federal court in Tennessee. Of those fines, $18.6 million – the equivalent of a 3.3 percent rise in milk prices – would be payed out over two years. Despite the settlement offer, DFA has not admitted to price-fixing.
