US/Canada: No contest by authorities over $6.8B food merger

A $6.8 billion deal between agrifood giant ConAgra and food processor Ralcorp has reportedly been approved by US and Canadian competition authorities. ConAgra made the deal to take over Ralcorp, including its pancake and cracker plants in Canada; Canada’s Competition Bureau sent a “no-action” letter to ConAgra, and the waiting period for review in the US has expired without a challenge from authorities to the deal, according to ConAgra. According to reports, Ralcorp is the largest maker of private-label food in the US.
