US: Nashville transportation committee sued for forcing price hikes on livery servicers
Local reports say Nashville’s Metro Transportation Licensing Commission is facing price-fixing allegations and will face trial in three weeks. According to reports, the owner of a transportation service, Metro Livery, began charging a rate of $25 for transportation to and from the airport. The Licensing Commission, however, eventually forced a minimum rate of $45 for the service, causing Metro Livery to reportedly suffer financial losses and cut the number of operating cars by half. The city was subsequently sued on behalf of Metro Livery and additional budget car services; a spokesperson for the Licensing Commission, however, says that the price increase was to ensure safe service to its customers and to “differentiate the services between taxi cabs and livery services.”
