EU: TNT, UPS just wont quit despite Commission’s doubt

A statement by TNT Express, a Dutch logistics company, said that its proposed merger with the United Parcel Service Inc. is still the goal as the two parties try to remedy concerns by the European Commission despite Commissioner Almunia’s recent comments to the press that the issues surrounding the deal are “not easy” to remedy. The Financial Times reported the interview with Almunia, which also included comments that the Commissioner believes that a sale of assets to FedEx Corp. may be a way to win approval from authorities. A spokesperson for TNT acknowledged the interview, though would not comment further other than ensuring the two parties remain committed to the proposal.
